What is up with the 43? The 43 kidnapped (and likely assassinated) students sparked a nation-wide protest in Mexico, a protest now spilling into the USA…and is symptomatic of a huge drug problem that ain’t going away. Get the Professor lowdown on this specific current event, and its role in the overall nasty narco-story of the North American continent. And dig these other vintage podcasts that refer to the Mexican War on Drugs in more detail:

Mexico just elected a new President last week! Woo-hoo! Yeah right, like most Americans can even locate Mexico on a map, much less care about politics happening south of their border. But you smart plaid followers understand that the profound significance of a possible policy shift based on a new president, from the opposing political party, taking the helm of one of the US’s biggest trading partners…and more importantly, taking control of the bloody ‘Drug Cartel War’ occurring in that country…which is of great significance to our country! Pick up some pointers in this Peña guy, and his possible policy shifts in this professor podcast.
The 6th Summit of the Americas just wrapped up in Cartagena, Colombia…and it could not have been more of a debacle for the United States! President Obama went to this grand meeting of the leaders of all the countries of the Americas (minus Cuba!) in order to rebuild bridges and ties after decades of US apathy towards Latin America. He failed. The status of Cuba, the miserable Drug War in the Americas, and even a US Secret Service scandal involving hookers has perhaps widened the gap between the US and the rest of the hemisphere. No bueno!!!

As promised last podcast, the Professor now looks forward to the new year of 2012 to inform you of the details of the significant shift of world leadership going down in the next 365 days. From new leaders to be tested in North Korea, Italy and Spain; to election cycles in US, Mexico, France, Russia, and Taiwan; to major turnovers in China, Palestine and possibly Pakistan, Syria, and Yemen…the parade of new faces started in 2011 is going to be accelerated significantly in the coming year, and the Professor wants you to be in the know!
Holy hot tamales my amigos! Mexico is on fire, and I’m not talking about jalape?os either! President Felipe Calder?n and the Mexican government’s war against drug cartels has ramped up in violence and death count in a very big way in the last 4 years, impacting all levels of society both within Mexico but also neighboring countries/regions. Instead of delving in the dirty details of the daily violence, the Plaid Avenger explains the “Why here?” and “Why now?” behind the rise of these cartels in northern Mexico here in the 21st century.
