G20 about to get “Syri-ous”

The big boys are all gathering this week…in St. Petersburg, Russia! The G-20 aka the Group of 20 are the world’s biggest 20 economies that send their actual heads of state to pow-wow once a year over all matters fiscal, economic…and sometimes even political! And that certainly will be the case this year in Russia, as the SYrian situation deepens, the US is contemplating action, a move that the Russians will certainly try to discourage. WHile they mostly are a talking shop of world economy, this summit is going to be getting Syri-ous on military maneuvers as well! Watch out Obama! Putin has home field advantage!

Shields v. Rockets: a New 21st Century Arms Race is On!

I’m making the call: a brand new 21st century arms race is on! The US and Russia are returning to their old Cold War mentalities by escalating competing defensive and offensive capabilities.  Announced earlier this week, the US/NATO missile defense shield is now operable in Europe, which pisses off the Ruskies, who in turn tested a new type of faster sleeker missile to be able to penetrate the shield. Team West is planning massive increases in their missile shield development, and Russia promises massive increases in their offensive capabilities to render the shield useless. Yay! Massive arms spending between powers that have virtually no chance of actually ever attacking each other! A total win for defense industries everywhere! Sorry taxpayers, you will have to flip the bill for the fun!

Russia Tilts East by Double-Dissing the West!

Vladimir Putin is back in the saddle of the Russian presidency, and one of his first moves involved a double-diss throw down on the US! He refused to attend the big G-8 Summit being hosted in the US! What is up with that? Plenty my friends, and it’s not all about the US either. Putin’s moves reflect a tilt way from the Team West dominated G-8 and NATO groups, and towards grander relationships with Asia and specifically China. Learn all the details of the double-diss here and the deeper meaning behind them.

In Other News…Palestine joins UNESCO

Say what? Why would a non-state like Palestine joining a sub-group of the UN named UNESCO be of any global significance? Oh man, I’m telling you, this is a sign of things to come! Listen to this podcast to understand how the US may be isolating itself to its own detriment on the world stage, and how this little ‘global parks service’ entity’s vote on Palestine may be a harbinger of things to come at the UN as a whole. The US’ role in the world is changing…and I want to know what you think of it!

Liberating Libya 4: Some Unanswered Questions

In this final flustered finale part 4 on what’s happening in Libya, the Plaid Avenger answers a host of other questions sent into him by you, the intelligent and inquisitive plaid viewers. And BTW thanks so much for those questions and comments! Topics for this Libya rant include why the Arab League supported an invasion of a fellow Arab country, why the French and British have been so hawkish on this whole affair, why other Arab states with uprisings are not being considered for like-minded invasions, who now supports this Libyan mission, who does not, and the greater repercussions of this event not just to Libya and the Middle East but to the entire world. And please comment below about what story the Avenger should report on next! The True Finns or the BRICS?
